Housekeeper Available

As we leave Dakar, we’d like to help find a kind employer for Francoise, who has worked for our family for over 7 years. She has many years of experience working as a housekeeper for international families in Senegal and Burkina Faso, and is now looking for part-time work.

Francoise is experienced, kind, honest, practical and reliable. She is wonderful with our children, able to independently manage household maintenance (periodic electricians, plumbers, etc.) when needed, manage simple household purchases, pet needs (chickens, cats, dogs) and cook delicious family meals on request.

She speaks Diola, Wolof and French. Although her English is limited, she was easy and able to communicate with some family members and visitors whose French was not very strong (and be a good French language partner)

Housekeeper AND Nanny Available

Housekeeper & Nanny recommendation! Please note that our housekeeper and nanny are mother and daughter: they are fine working independently, but in my opinion make a great team if you are looking for a housekeeper and a nanny since one can easily cover for the other.

I highly recommend our housekeeper Fatoumata Bassene. She worked with us for three years, doing everything to keep our household tidy and running smoothly. Her daily duties included cleaning, doing laundry, making the beds, prepping and cooking meals, running errands (grocery shopping, dry-cleaning, helping me find special ingredients, fish, or anything else we asked), and any other special tasks (deep cleaning the patio, windows, fridge, etc). She also regularly babysat our two very young kids when our nanny was unavailable. Super hard-working, never called in sick, takes direction well, and goes about her day with minimal supervision (I am not a micromanager!). French speaking, but understands some English. Available now. Email me at or call her directly at 76 4712952 or 77 4377672.

I highly recommend our nanny, Aminata Badji. She worked with us for the past three years taking care of our two kids who were 3 months and 2 years old when we arrived. She is young, energetic, amazing with the kids and has so much patience and love for them. Her duties included picking them up from school, taking them to playdates, playing with them, reading and doing activities with them, feeding them, and bathing them. She regularly babysits at night or spends the night and is always available when we need her. She took the emergency training with the embassy Med unit and was with me when l had to call SOS Medicin twice to get emergency stitches for our son. She also took swim lessons with our kids! She came with our family to Washington DC for the months of June and July, but is now back in Dakar and available for a new position. Speaks French and some English. Email me at or call her directly at 77 0100061.

Housekeeper Available

Prudence is a WONDERFUL housekeeper. She is the housekeeper that I wish I had found when I first arrived in Dakar. I do not have to keep an eye on her or watch everything she does. In fact she’s a little more detailed when it comes to doing things than I am. I can ask her to do anything, explain why I like something a particular way and never have to worry about it being done differently. She is happy to cook and do meal prep. She’s efficient and proactive in keeping things orderly and organized. For example I asked her to put everything on bookcases into boxes and when I brought additional boxes for the remaining items, she finished putting them in the boxes without prompting. If she sees something that she thinks may need to be organized or put away it will be done before you know it. My dog loves her and she loves my dog. She’s always fixing any little issue she finds in my clothes, be it a loose button or a hole. Thankfully, I don’t own anything that was purchased with rips otherwise it would be repaired. She lets me know immediately if there’s a problem such as no water or electricity. She has handled vet appointments and deliveries for me. She escorts anyone that enters for repairs and reports back. Given the current environment, she spoke with the guards, took them hand soap, explained the importance of wearing masks and washing hands and yells at them if they aren’t wearing one. She is available at the end of August. If you have any questions you can contact me at or contact her directly at +221-77-718-2577.

Bintou Sane has worked with us for the last three+ years and has been a trusted member of household. She asked from the beginning for feedback and has always been honestly open to our comments. She herself set the norm and it worked well. She cleaned, ironed and cooked for us. In addition to her great Yassa Poulet and Asian dishes, she now can make a range of Mexican dishes from fish tacos to enchiladas, salsa, etc. Yum! She would love to cook (she also likes to bake) and nanny again for another family, as she loves kids. We did not need her as a nanny, but can vouch that she was lovely with our family members. She would also take care of the house and pet sit while we were on leave. We entrusted her to manage a house budget and oversee payment of salaries to other staff members and vendors. She always tracked receipts and kept us up to date. Bintou speaks French, Wolof and understands/speaks basic English. Due to our abrupt departure this month, she is available immediately. Bintou is seeking full time work as a housekeeper/nanny/cook and can be reached at +221 77 534-9921 or email at:

Here is her previous reference.

I highly recommend Bintou Sane as a cook and housekeeper. Bintou has worked for American Embassy families since 2002 and has the flexibility and experience to manage all aspects of household and family care. She worked for us from 2014 to 2016 and was responsible for cleaning the house, shopping for food, taking care of the children, doing the laundry, and cooking meals. While she was very good at all of these tasks, she excelled at cooking, which was our priority. She is now very skilled at cooking Asian food, particularly Indian and Thai curries and Chinese stir fry dishes. She also prepares very good American dishes. She knows a wide variety of meals for children and adults, and she is eager to learn new recipes or adapt ones she already knows to your family’s taste. Bintou’s exceptional cooking skills enabled us to host

dinner parties two or three times per month, which were always perfectly timed and delicious. Bintou is honest, we would give her money to shop at the local grocery store and receive vendors once a week. Bintou is excellent with children. My girls (ages 8 and 10 in 2016) loved spending time with her. Bintou has been certified by the American Embassy and has taken the household help training several times. She speaks French, Wolof and some English and understands far more.
