Head of People Operations

Dimagi West Africa is seeking a passionate and well-rounded Head of People Operations to join our office in Dakar, Senegal.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience in Human Resources, Administration, Operations, and/or recruitment.
  • Strong, well-rounded track record in Human Resources, including
    • Developing and implementing HR projects and policies,
    • Managing employee HR concerns, complaints, and mediation
    • Running HR processes, such as benefit administration and payroll
  • Experience managing individuals or a team
  • Generalist skill set needed, including ability to manage an office in a startup environment
  • Excellent oral and written English and French; preference for applicants with some knowledge of Wolof
  • Experience and/or aptitude with remote communication and online coordination tools, in order to work effectively within Dimagi’s highly distributed global operations team

The DWA Head of People Operations will help maintain and further establish team development at Dimagi West Africa, while greatly enhancing our human resources operations. The Head of People Operations will lead our strategy in West Africa among these areas, and will focus on supporting Dimagi’s employees in Dakar. Specifically, this role will lead operations across a range of areas, including: employee relations; recruiting; HR policies, processes & compliance; benefits and compensation; office management; and other areas as assigned.

This role will work directly with both Dimagi West Africa’s management team as well as Dimagi’s Global Operations team to drive these initiatives, anticipate changes, and implement processes and improvements needed. This position is expected to report to the Country Director of West Africa but also work closely with our Global Director of People Operations.

What you will do in the role

  • Manage Human Resources at Dimagi West Africa:
  • Serve as single point person on all personnel/HR related questions in West Africa, in coordination with the global Operations team
  • Work with the local West Africa management team to set priorities for the local Ops team
  • Maintain and evolve Dimagi’s HR policies and processes within West Africa
  • Manage complex HR issues, and be the front line for HR for complaints, concerns, or suggestions
  • Support local staffing / resourcing
  • Office Management and General Administration– Manage and support a direct report who is responsible for:
  • General office management and team operations, as well as other office support staff
  • Day-to-day administration of our office, including: managing support staff; maintaining relationships with external vendors; ensuring safety and security of the office; inventory management and procurement
  • Managing our internal IT vendor, including designing and managing processes for staff to get IT support as needed
  • Supporting planning and coordinating company events including off site retreats and workshops
  • Supporting and managing administrative finance requirements by working closely with the finance team
  • Benefits and Compensation:
  • Lead review of Dimagi West Africa benefits, integrating broader company goals and market data
  • Help define compensation and incentive structures across global Dimagi
  • Recruiting:
  • Lead and coordinate Dimagi West Africa’s recruiting efforts, including hiring strategy, candidate sourcing, screening, and offers
  • Partner with our West Africa management team to improve and refine our recruiting process
  • Talent Development:
  • Manage and coordinate onboarding for new-hires and off-boarding for employees leaving the organization
  • Support the West Africa management team to ensure that staff are receiving regular direction, actionable feedback, and career development guidance in coordination with their manager
